IF I HAD to nominate one person, or thing, that has made my job that much easier over the last couple of weeks, I would have no trouble giving you an answer.

Yes, that's right, Jonny Wilkinson.

It's amazing the level of interest one person alone can spark in the game.

Several people are jumping on the rugby bandwagon and, don't get me wrong, that's great. The more people enjoying the game, at whatever level, the better.

People are beginning to realise how entertaining the game can be to watch and, more importantly, how much fun it can be to participate in.

Over the last three weeks I have been heavily involved with Year 10 and 11 students at Cranbourne School in Basingstoke and, despite the inclement weather, it has been great to see them thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Last week, when it was absolutely teeming down, I rang head of PE Andy Kimber, expecting them to cancel - but, no, they were all keen as mustard to get out and develop their skills, especially because it was kicking skills day.

There were 25 Jonny Wilkinsons out there, drop-kicking, place-kicking, bombing, grubbering and kicking any other way they could think of.

I'm sure, in the back of your mind, you're thinking only the boys would be keen. But you would be wrong.

Every girl in the class was out there, just as keen to hone their skills. And it doesn't stop there. Tackling seems to draw the most interest of all!

Rugby is a safe, enjoyable outlet for any young person and we welcome anyone at the club who is interested in playing or coaching.
