AWARD-WINNING Eastleigh Borough Youth theatre will be 'revolting' when they perform George Orwell's classic Animal Farm from Wednesday.

The show promises to bring to life the madness of the farm in a truly original way - on stage will be a mud bath, dozens of empty bottles, breeze blocks and pallets galore!

Animal Farm follows the story of a group of animals who overthrow their master, Farmer Jones. The pigs take control of the farm, but nothing runs quite as smoothly as expected!

This adaptation of Orwell's classic novel is a clever satire on life after the Russian revolution in 1917.

Directing the muddy mayhem is the innovative Tim Ford who has chosen to direct this show during George Orwell's centenary year and is promising a very different experience.

He says: "I firmly believe that theatre should challenge and inspire the performers and the audience. I really wanted to give the audience a chance to get involved in the piece and give them more of an experience with the show set in the round."

He adds: "The show is physically intense. I am really trying to bring out the darker side of George Orwell's story about the Russian revolution and communist regime."

Local businesses have been joining the revolution as well: the Southampton branch of Rolawn have donated three tons of top-soil to cover the stage with, while Aquatec Plumbing & Heating have provided the mud bath. Elliotts HRF Ltd have added some breeze blocks, and Eastleigh public house Stones have been collecting empty bottles for weeks to complete the set.
