BEAULIEU turned the clock back to Victorian times as an estimated 6,000 people enjoyed an evening of old time shopping in its historic High Street.
The annual event again had all the
trappings of the past, with lights flickering in the trees, candles on the tables and Father Christmas again dishing out the presents.
But Santa did arrive in style - chauffeur-driven in a 1909 Rolls-Royce.
For the hungry, there were hot chestnuts, hot dogs, burgers, hot mince pies, mulled wine and other treats to keep out the cold.
Attractions included a range of trade stalls selling such things as New Forest jam and chutney and Beaulieu pastries.
Visitors included Lord Montagu's daughter Mary Montagu-Scott and children Benjamin, 3, and Emilia, 1.
She said: "We're here because it's always such a wonderful evening and the children love it. There's a marvellous selection of things to help with the Christmas shopping. We are so lucky that there are so many good shops in the village."
A Punch and Judy Show, a carousel and animals brought in by the Countryside Education Trust added to the fun.
