TWO thirds of rail passengers using Andover, Whit-church and Overton stations say their rush-hour trains are too small and overcrowded, according to a survey carried out by the Liberal Democrats.

The under-capacity is the main cause of dissatisfaction and Martin Tod, the Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for North West Hampshire, has promised to take up these concerns with the South West Trains management.

One regular Whitchurch traveller wrote about a decision to shorten the train length of the 8.15am London-bound train from six to five carriages, making a busy time 'even more overcrowded where I always have to stand'.

Mr Tod said: "We need to know if service on the Andover line has been sacrificed to benefit other services, such as the through trains from Reading to Brighton."

The survey also found more than two thirds of res-pondents are satisfied with time- keeping on the line and 54 per cent say the trains run 'often enough'.

Some 77 per cent of travellers agreed with the Lib Dems that the trains and tracks should be maintained by the same body.
