IT was a fairytale ending for Andover pensioner Sydney Bradbury's replica model of the Canberra ship - when it found a new home at a recent craft fair.

Limited room in his Charles Dalton Court flat meant that Sydney, aged 89, was forced to give up his Canberra model and feared he would have to destroy it.

Luckily, Sydney's grandson Simon Lynn stepped in to take charge of the model - something he remembers his grandad making when he was a boy.

The craft fair, held in Charles Dalton Court, was also a chance for some creatively minded residents to display their efforts.

Besides Sydney's models - some of them made out of cereal boxes - fellow residents showcased their artistic endeavours to family and friends.

Some of the Charles Dalton residents, including Gordon Gadsby, aged 67, Syd Blyth, aged 83, Allen Bunch, aged 72, Vena Shepherd, aged 78, and Dot Rees-Eebbe, aged 70, and Doris Van Cauter, aged 83, regularly take part in a number of activities including watercolours, knitting, and leather work.

Sydney's daughter, Christine Lynn, said: "People were overwhelmed hearing that my dad's model might have to be destroyed and he's delighted it has been saved.

"The warden of the flats said how pleased she was to see everyone come together and show what they can do."
