AN astonishing second-half performance by Barry Bendall's rink helped carry Banister Park through to the fourth round of the Ryman Denny Cup.

Trailing 11-7 at Eastleigh, Trevor Comley, Pete Hammond, Denny Murrey and skip Bendall hit back with a vengeance to thrash Mick Howard 35-13. Alongside, Cliff Higgins, Geoff Norgate, John Joslin and Danny McEwan polished off John Schools 25-16.

Having been all square on 20-20 at ten ends at home, Banister Park eventually overcame Worthing 98-70 overall.

Banister Park also flourished in Sussex where Derek Read, Stuart Martin, Mark Hammond and Paul May pipped Steve Potten 22-21 - and it was only the 20-16 defeat of Ken Prior, Malcolm Comley, Steve Whitehead and Andy Anderson by John Dicker that prevented a clean sweep.

Atherley were humbled 95-51 by Victory. It was a rock-bottom display by the Southampton club who were particularly out of sorts on their home carpet where Richard Shelley crashed 28-11 to Charlie Bailey and Colin Thresher tumbled 27-16, having been 27-10 adrift after 17 ends against Colin Hayward.

The story was little better at Portsmouth with Billy Groves beaten 23-10 by Steve Robertson and Peter Line at least upholding some semblance of Atherley honour by losing only 17-14 to Peter Hobday.

In the next round on Saturday, November 22, Banister Park face more Sussex opposition in Adur who beat Arun 90-69.

Victory tackle East Dorset, who strode through 109-52 with Hampshire skip Adam Tidby accelerating from 9-7 at ten ends to triumph 45-7 in Sussex.

Loddon Vale fell 98-63 to King George Field (Surrey).

Banister Park tumbled out of the national under-25 double rink championship 54-27 to Dorchester.

Paul May lost 29-11 to Jamie Lockwood at Dorchester and Mark Hammond went down 25-16 to Martin Pavey at Stoneham Lane.

Hampshire have named an unchanged team for Saturday's Liberty Trophy derby against Dorset at Donyatt, Ilminster (midday). Hampshire will start hot favourites to reach the quarter-finals after pounding Dorset 137-95 in a pre-season friendly a month ago.
