The junior netball season kicked off on Saturday with an event dominated by Weston Park and Fleming Park - although Swaythling made their presence felt in the Under-11 age-group to run out worthy winners.

Weston Park had the most success of all the teams.

They claimed excellent overall victories in the Under-12 and Under-13 categories, also finishing runners-up in the Under-10s.

Fleming Park were definitely the unluckiest team.

They pipped Weston to the Under-10 'high five' title but had to settle for second place in each of the Under-11, Under-12 and Under-13 age-groups.

There was a good turnout of teams generally with the ages of the players involved varying from eight-to-13 years old.

The level of netball that was demonstrated at the tournament was superb - there was great determination demonstrated by all the teams.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day while the mums turned up for their weekly gossip while supporting their daughters in the cold.

The tournament was well organised and went off smoothly - every-body, whether they be watching, taking part or being the officials, had an enjoyable day.

A great debt of thanks is due to everybody's help and support on the day of the tournament.

The under 10s played 'high five', a format in which there are five players on the court rather then seven.

This creates more space and makes it easier for them to move into gaps and understand the game rules better.

This age group moved superbly around the court but what was so good to see was their faces when they scored a goal.

The teamwork that they demonstrated at such an early age was fantastic and all teams played hard.
