VETERANS from the conflicts of the past century crowded into Southampton's Guildhall last night to take part in the city's annual Festival of Remembrance.
The moving ceremony began with a colourful parade of standards held by members of the Southampton branches of the Royal British Legion - supported by Army cadets.
A message from The Queen was also read to the audience by chairman of the Festival of Remembrance - Tom McEniry - before a concert staged by the Hampshire Police Band and members of the Romsey Male Voice Choir got under way.
The Queen sent her "best wishes'' to the Legion and thanked members for their support.
Prayers were led by the Anglican Area Dean for Southampton, the Rev Norman Boakes.
