Basingstoke Town Res 1, Marlow Res 1

BASINGSTOKE Reserves missed too many chances in the first half against a side they beat at Marlow earlier in the season. They had to be satisfied with a point in the end and it was just about the right result.

On the plus side, another new face was introduced, centre back Craig Parrington, who has been released by Farnborough Town.

He had a pretty sound game and there was also another 45-minute run for Toby Sumner, without any ill effects.

The home side started the better with Matt Brunt, Ross Norgate and Wayne Watts going close.

Basingstoke 'keeper Michael Watkins did well to rush out and block a shot after the Marlow striker had run clear.

Brunt forced a good save from David Earles before Basingstoke took the lead after 38 minutes.

A corner came in from Sumner and Lee Champion, the former Aldershot youth player, headed his first goal for the club.

Basingstoke continued to attack and Brunt almost caught the 'keeper with a surprise shot, but it was saved at the foot of the post.

Marlow began to get into the game with much more effort and after the break Ian Manley was unlucky when his free kick hit the post. Then Watkins did well to save from Watts soon after.

The equaliser arrived on 71 minutes as James Horstead, who had replaced Sumner at half time, brought down Michael Wilkins and Watts scored from the spot kick. For his foolish protesting, Simon Herbert was booked.

Marlow looked the more likely winners, with Mark Taylor shooting wide and Watkins did well to stop Watts on a break. Champion did have a late shot at goal but a point was all Basingstoke could pick up.

Team: Watkins, Herbert, Parrington, Patterson, Champion, Norgate, Ben Sumner, Toby Sumner (Horstead), Brunt, Martins. Martin. Subs (not used) Pearce, Wellman, Neller, Weston.

On Saturday, the reserves lost at Carshalton 4-1.
