BAT boss Andy Leader was left to reflect on two controversial refereeing decisions after his team lost 1-0 against high-flying Gosport at Privett Park.

"We should have had a stonewall penalty when Richie Gregory went down three yards inside their area and we've been given a free-kick outside the box," bemoaned Leader.

"And then, five minutes from time, Fraser Quirke has handled the ball, which has then gone on to Neil Scammell who is standing yards offside.

"He buries it into the back of the net from six yards and that's it.

"Our performance was as complete as it could have been and we shouldn't have lost - but I can't legislate for bad decisions."

Win-happy Winchester City were in a hurry as they extended their advantage at the top of the Sydenhams Wessex League to eight points with a 4-0 victory at nearby Moneyfields - their 14th success in 15 league games.

All four goals came in a devastating 10-minute spell midway through the second half with SWL top goalscorer Andy Forbes notching yet another hat-trick - the pick being a scorcher 25-yard effort.

David Goss also etched his name on the scoresheet as Moneyfields' ten-match unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt.

Forbes has now belted 27 league goals already in 2003/04 - 14 more than nearest rival Stuart Findley of Bemerton.

Lymington & New Milton failed to take advantage of that result when they were also held 1-1 by Cowes.

Kevin James had given the Linnets the lead with a fifth minute penalty after Pete Smith had been bundled over in the area but the Islanders grabbed a point through Phil McDonald fifteen minutes from time.

"We are disappointed with the result but not with the way we've played," said Linnets' assistant manager Richie Phippard.

"Their keeper Gary Streeter has been magnificent today and we have been punished for one mistake late on."

To add to the Linnets' woes, Ben Thomson was red-carded after 80 minutes for an alleged stamp.

New-signing Jimmy Anderson was crowned Man-of-the-Match after starring in a winning debut for Totton who beat Portland 3-1 at Testwood Park.

Totton got off to a great start when Pete Clark shot them into a third minute lead from Marc Osman's cross and they doubled it on the half hour mark through Hedley Winter.

Jamie Reeve reduced the arrears for the Dorset side in the second half before a tremendous 40-yard run by Osman ended with him squaring the ball to Dave Egerton to slide in the third.

Totton boss Barry Blankley said: "We played very well and our luck finally changed today; in Jimmy Anderson we have a quality player."

Stuart Findlay was Bemerton's two-goal hero as they triumped 2-1 at Blackfield & Langley, who finished the game with ten men after Steve Hall was dismissed.

Findlay netted his first from the penalty spot on 20 minutes after he had been brought down in the penalty area.

The same player made it 2-0 after 47 minutes when he rounded the keeper to shoot into an empty net.

Steve Wheatland grabbed a home consolation ten minutes from time.

Harlequins manager Steve Slade said: "It sounds close but it shouldn't have been - we had at least a dozen good goalscoring chances and missed all but two."

Brockenhurst continued their climb up the table after pipping Hamble ASSC 1-0 at Folland Park, a 20-yard free-kick by Matty Morris settling matters after 52 minutes.
