RECENTLY voted into the top 40 of Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Peter Green is as close to a living legend as you can get.

He tasted fame and worldwide success as the guitarist/singer/harmonica player who fronted Fleetwood Mac from 1969 to 1971, penning and performing such classics as Albatross, Black Magic Woman, Man Of The World and Green Manalishi.

Tragically, his brilliant career stalled as he fell prey to the temptations and pressures of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, and his subsequent struggle with drugs and illness has been well documented.

During the 90s, with the help of friends and well-wishers, he picked up his guitar once more and gradually made his return to live performance.

Assisted by Nigel Watson, who today shares vocal and guitar duties with Peter, the Splinter Group was put together and made its live debut in Buxton on May 5, 1996.

Since that first tentative show, the band have slowly but surely been building a worldwide reputation for their spirited blues performances.

As well as Peter and Nigel, the line-up includes Roger Cotton on keyboards, Peter Stroud on bass and Larry Tolfree on drums.

The band deliver a potent blend of blues standards, early Fleetwood Mac hits and original material.

The band have now played more than 700 gigs all over the world.

This year, their live schedule has taken them to Europe and Canada, where they headlined at the world-famous Ottawa Blues Festival.

You can see the Peter Green Splinter Group at Salisbury City Hall on Wednesday. Tickets co
