Southampton certainly have no travel sickness worries this season after crushing US Portsmouth to maintain their grip on second place in London Division Four South-West.

It was their second successive away win - double their tally from last term - but the 47-10 result could have been considerably more severe at one stage, but skipper Tony Cador was more than satisfied to have claimed their fourth triumph of the campaign.

And that was after the surprise of going behind after just two minutes having not touched the ball; Services crossing before the visitors had even warmed to the game!

But once they got going, it was plain sailing with winger Alex Scott and Cador himself poaching a brace of tries in the seven try romp in a performance that the captain crowed was, "the complete team performance."

Only a couple of issues prevented them from totalling a lot more against a poor Services outfit who are seemingly heading towards another scrap on the wrong end of the table this season.

"I could not pick out one player for special mention," continued Cador. "We were all just very good. Services did not give up but they were trying to play the game from their own 22 most of the time, such was our domination of the match.

"It was a game that I would not have minded sitting in the stand and watching as a Southampton supporter."

Romsey's recent good form came crashing to an end when they were thrashed 56-0 at Farnham, who moved up to third behind Southampton on the back of the result.

A host of changes before kick-off did not help their cause and a keen Farnham outfit looking to bounce back from a poor start to the season caught them. Romsey are still bottom of the table on points difference but only a single point separates them from Services in seventh.

A disastrous showing from Tottonians sent them hurtling towards a fourth defeat from five starts when they were well beaten by a decidedly average Effingham & Leatherhead side 27-7.

Skipper Miles Northover was furious with his side's lack of commitment and only praised the efforts of flanker Gareth Edwards and newcomer James Angove in an otherwise abject performance.

He said: "In all the other games this season, we have come off with some pride.

"But this one, we all knew that we had played very poorly. The attitude was all wrong from the start. It was just a bad day at the office all round."

Paul Goodall scored their only try and converted it himself.

Petersfield eased their worries with a much-needed victory over Old Paulines in London Four, returning a 27-17 win against the Surrey side not renowned for their travelling strength.
