BUS service number two is to continue, I was informed this week. The route includes Hatch Warren Lane and Sullivan Road in Brighton Hill.

It seems that a rumour has been circulating that the service would be discontinued, but it was confirmed at a local authority panel meeting that the rumour is incorrect.

The Harvest Festival service last Sunday at the Church of Christ the King was quite a surprise.

The music group provided background harmony as people found their seats.

Three groups of Brighton Hill Brownies were very welcome. The first, third and fifth packs were dressed in familiar yellow and brown uniforms.

Also present were Brighton Hill MacLean Scouts, who meet on Monday evenings.

The church was aglow with flowers, including yellow and bronze chrysanthemums, as well as colourful bowls of fruit, a generous collection of food items and not to be missed prize marrows.

THE vicar introduced a new kind of service. The sermon had a theme of communication and making friends, illustrated by a short play, with churchgoers taking different parts based on the story of talents in the Bible.

The congregation then formed groups, each group accepting a seed for planting.

Interesting ideas were "joining in" and "being a good friend".

Christmas Child was introduced, with leaflets being distributed inviting people to fill shoeboxes with gifts for children in need at Christmas.
