INNOVATIVE environmental companies in the south are being given a helping hand in their quest for success from a new network in the region.

A new innovation group is looking to offer help, advice and funding to small companies developing new technology in the environmental market.

Stephen Davis, director of the Southampton Enterprise Hub, pictured, said that funding for companies was the main focus of a recent Environmental Technologies Innovation Group seminar.

"Local companies who are looking to develop in this field found the seminar provided practical advice on moving their ideas forward.

"With the government intent on reducing Britain's carbon levels by 60 per cent by the year 2050, funding and business opportunities for companies developing innovative, low-carbon technologies are escalating.

"In order to keep the south-east at the forefront of environmental development, the environment Centre (tEC), in collaboration with the Southampton Enterprise Hub and Business Link Wessex, are linking together to organise a business-based, environmental technologies focus group.''

The recent seminar was hosted by the Enterprise Hub and the Environment Centre (tEC), and speakers at the seminar included Anna Frizzell from Business Link Wessex who talked about the types of funding available and Dr Peter Hockley from Hook-based Plasma Quest who spoke about how it has used government funding and grants to develop a wide range of its applications.
