NICOLAS Philibert's charming documentary chronicles a year in the life of a tiny French primary school in the Auvergne farming district, which continues to operate despite the continued threat of closure.
The documentary was cut from over 60 hour's worth of footage shot over a ten-week period.
Georges Lopez, the sole teacher at the school, gives special one-on-one tuition to his dozen or so students, whose ages range from four to ten.
Through his patience and enthusiasm, Lopez manages to connect with his young charges and inspire them to follow their dreams, also taking time out to take them all tobogganing during a particularly heavy snowfall.
The director, Nicolas Philibert, focuses on Lopez's methods and the way the children respond to him and his diverse curriculum.
A charming film that will warm your heart and give film-fans a much-needed break from the onslaught of summer blockbusters.
Showing at The Harbour Lights until Thursday. Box office: 023 8033 5533.
