FROM smooth modern soul to classic easy listening, the lakeside lawns of Palace House, Beaulieu are set to resound to some diverse musical sounds over the next three nights.

Three extremely different concerts have been lined up for music-lovers, starting with tonight's performance by slick tribute stars The Rat Pack.

Fresh from their smash-hit run in the West End, the trio pay homage to those wild boys of 50s and 60s Hollywood - Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin.

The performance recreates a typical show from the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, with some of the most popular standards of 20th century music supported by a 15-piece on-stage band and three glamorous backing singers.

Tomorrow night, the London Gala Orchestra performs under the baton of Stephen Bell, with star solo turns for soprano Naomi Harvey and tenor Lynton Atkinson. The evening's programme features a selection of classical favourites, including music by Glinka, Bizet and Delius.

The evening will build to a rousing finale, as Wood's Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Parry's Jerusalem and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance No 1 are performed to a spectacular choreographed fireworks display.

The closing concert on Sunday is the weekend's most anticipated - a performance by one of the most popular British bands of the last 20 years, Simply Red.

Fronted by pint-sized redhead Mick Hucknall, the band have won millions of fans worldwide with their accessible modern soul.

Currently on the road supporting their latest album, Home, the Mancunian outfit boast a formidable back catalogue, including the hits Holding Back the Years, Stars, If You Don't Know Me By Now and Fairground - all of which should be on the set list on Sunday.

25 July - The Rat Pack; 26 July - Palace House Prom; 27 July - Simply Red. Tickets for The Rat Pack and Palace House Prom are available on the gate, but Simply Red tickets must be bought in advance. Box office: 08700 600 100.
