ANDOVER schoolboy Kyle Swayne has signed for Portsmouth Football Club on a three-year PFA scholarship.

The 16-year-old has moved to Fratton Park to begin daily fitness and training sessions with the Premiership side, as well as performing the usual 'boot boy' duties for the first team players.

Kyle was born in Cork, in the Republic of Ireland, and moved to Andover with his parents Robert and Christine, and his older brother Bobby, as a youngster.

He attended St John the Baptist Primary School and has just left John Hanson School, where as deputy head boy he sat 10 GCSEs.

At seven, Kyle began playing for Andover New Street until he was 15. In his final year he helped them win the league and cup double.

He has also represented the Andover schoolboys team and the Peter Houseman Representative team, where he regularly appeared on the scoresheet.

His goal scoring skills were also displayed as a Hampshire Schoolboys player from the age of 12.

Kyle attended the Portsmouth School of Excellence in Basingstoke from the age of 11 and quickly progressed to twice weekly sessions in Portsmouth and then became a regular in the Portsmouth youth teams.

At Pompey he was chosen, aged 15, to be part of the Under 18 FA Cup youth team which played against Spurs at Fratton Park last year.

In the last 18 months Kyle was chosen as one of only three boys from the Hampshire area to attend a training and assessment centre as part of the England Schoolboys selection.

Kyle's dad Robert said: "Kyle spent five years travelling to Portsmouth twice a week to train and often left home at 6am on a Sunday morning to play with Portsmouth and then lined out with his friends for his beloved New Street team in the afternoon."
