A LARGE grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund will enabled trustees of Thruxton War Memorial Hall to restore the 19th century, grade two listed building.

With a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund of £434,745, together with a generous grant from Test Valley Borough Council of £18,750 and £12,500 from Hampshire County Council the interior will be transformed.

The false ceiling will be removed, all the windows on the upper level will be opened up, a new heating system will be installed and the hall will be made into a multi-use community space.

All the facilities will be updated for wheelchair users and an extension will be built for the use of small groups not wanting the expense of a large hall.

Michael Houghton, of the Heritage Lottery Fund said: "Thruxton War Memorial Hall provides a focal point for the village and the surrounding area. We're delighted to help secure its role in the future life of the community."

Trustees recognised early on that their hall was rich in history and this grant allows them to preserve it for the next generation and those beyond.
