TWO kind-hearted Andover mums have raised almost £350 to replace stolen toys from their children's primary school.

Georgina Armer and Sarah Saunders undertook the sponsored walk after hearing about the burglary at Roman Way Primary School.

The pair collected money from friends, family and the school community after completing the seven-mile walk to Whitchurch dressed as Romans, raising £346.50.

Headteacher Camilla Wydenbach said: "Our storage shed was broken into and the reception children's toys such as bikes, scooters and cars were taken onto the roof, played with and broken.

"Funding is tight in schools at the moment but we would have tried to find the money.

"It was so kind they took it upon themselves to do this sponsored walk."

Mrs Armer said: "We felt really upset when we heard what had happened.

"There isn't a lot of funding available so we thought we would do something about it."

Mrs Saunders added: "The children had nothing to play with and we wanted to do it before the end of term."

The mums spent three days ensuring the 13 new toys were ready and have thanked Halfords for giving them a discount and helping to assemble the bikes.

They also thanked Vigo Nurseries for providing the headdresses for the sponsored walk.
