TRAFFIC calming measures in Andover's Weyhill Road got under way on Monday.
The measures are an attempt to reduce traffic speed and improve pedestrian facilities on the road, which many motorists use to get into the town centre.
Included in the plans are a new roundabout at the East Portway junction and pedestrian refuge islands at Cheavley Close, Colebrook Way and Jensen Gardens.
There will also be a new puffin crossing at the Chestnut Tree pub and changes to access and parking arrangements at Portway Close and the shops opposite
Adjustments will also be made to the central roundabout islands at Millway Road and Salisbury Road.
Hampshire County Council, which is making the improvements, says it expects the work to be completed by Christmas.
However the county is warning motorists that during the construction period temporary traffic lights in place on Weyhill Road are likely to cause delays.
