THERE were plenty of exciting matches when it came to deciding the ultimate winners of this year's Summer League.

The play-offs were held at the Netball Centre with the upper section matches, held a couple of weeks ago, seeing Home James come out on top with Applemore runners-up and third place going to Kings.

The lower section involved three matches - between Home James Black and JDT, Winchester County and Imperials and JHC versus Fortis, all closely contested, to decide who reached the play-offs, which were run as a round robin.

Home James Black, Imperials and Fortis went through with Home James and Imperials contesting the first match. The game was incredibly close with Imperials proving a team who have improved tremendously during the past year. But Home James staged a fighting finish to win 10-8.

The girls had about two minutes to get their breath back before they were playing again - against Fortis, with the ultimate prize of Summer League winners at stake.

The game was steady and controlled but, unfortunately for Fortis, their shooter who normally fires them in from anywhere in the circle, was not on form in the first few minutes.

Even so, they hung on to only lose by four goals. It still meant that Home James Black were the winners and Fortis were playing for runners-up position against Imperials.

Both played despite being slightly tired from the fast pace of all the games of the evening.

Fortis managed to hold off the attacking surges by Imperials and took the runners-up spot.
