Bournemouth crushed Alton by ten wickets last night to clinch a place in next month's Southern Electric Contracting Cup final at the Rose Bowl.

Ben Jansen (40) and Huw Ross (32) shone as Alton scored 137-8 off 20 overs.

But Bournemouth openers Adam Voges (69no) and Richard Scott (60no) rattled off the runs at a canter. Bournemouth play Havant in the final at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday August 5.

Gordon Muchall's patient 58 off 112 balls proved in vain for Durham as Sussex won by eight runs under the Hove floodlights in the National League Second Division last night.

Chasing 170 on a sluggish pitch, Durham plunged to 26-5. But Muchall, a 20-year-old Geordie who has played for England Under-19s and is a member of the England Academy, played with great concentration to give his side a victory chance before being run out with two overs remaining.

He had added 52 for the ninth wicket in nine overs with Neil Killeen, who was trapped leg before by Southampton-born Billy Taylor off the final ball of the penultimate over as Durham were bowled out for 161. Muchall, who came in with Durham 3-2, shared in stands of 36 and 24 with Phil Mustard and Graeme Bridge.
