THE well-known Southampton Docks personality, security team inspector Peter Fry, has been presented with a top national award by Sir Keith Povey, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary for England and Wales.

Peter, who works for Securicor Security Ltd, was selected as a national winner for 'Service to the Customer' in the Annual Security Officer Awards organised by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA).

Peter, who is 56, runs the security team at Southampton Docks, owned and operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), where he has been assigned since 1991.

Nav Kalley, area manager for Securicor Security, who nominated him for the award, said: "Peter's enthusiasm and knowledge of the job are unquestionable and he has a natural talent for finding the right person for the right task.

"He is a well-known character in the port and extremely proud of his security team, who are renowned for their appearance, professionalism and ability to thrive under pressure.''

As well as his security skills, Peter annually organises the Children in Need appeal at the port, which has raised more than £50,000 over the years.

His award nomination was supported by the port's head of safety, Hanif Brora, who said: "I've watched Peter develop from a security officer to a very effective cruise line security manager. ABP recognise Peter's dedication and loyalty. His thoughtfulness and attention to detail highlight the quality of supervision he provides to protect the cruise lines that call at Southampton."
