IT was a double celebration at the Princess Anne Hospital in Southampton when new mums gathered to mark the launch of a new service.
Breastfeeding Babes is a group put together by staff at the hospital to offer mums support, help and advice with breastfeeding, as well as other issues.
Guest of honour at the event was Harpreet Kaur, 19, with her week-old daughter Amanpreet, who was the 1,000th baby to be born on the Broadlands Ward.
Romsey MP Sandra Gidley performed the cutting of the ribbon to mark the official opening of the service. She said: "I can still remember the absolute agony of getting breastfeeding wrong. At the time there were not many people around me breastfeeding and it was very difficult."
Project manager Maria Dore said: "We've been working towards this for quite some time. Women do benefit incredibly from supporting each other. They learn from each other and we're hoping that's what we will find from Breastfeeding Babes."
Breastfeeding Babes runs in the hospital's Broadlands Ward Monday to Friday from 10am to 1pm.
