IT was the day that a country town came to life.
The easy-paced atmosphere of Romsey was blown away over the weekend as the market town revelled in the annual Beggars Fair.
Like Topsy, it grows and grows and this year's extravaganza was bigger and better than ever.
Originally a medieval celebration, the fair has grown into one of the largest independent festivals since its revival in 1993 and all its attractions are free.
More than 70 professional and amateur performers entertained. Children were asmused by a host of magicians and face painters and the sounds of local folk, blues and jazz and classical musicians filled the air.
