Darren Kenton admits he's already getting a torrid introduction to life in the Premiership.

The 24-year-old, who joined on a free transfer from Norwich before the end of last season, has been on running duties with his new teammates for the past fortnight.

But now he's preparing himself for the dreaded trip to Scotland on Friday and the gruelling fitness building regime imposed by manager Gordon Strachan.

Kenton said: "The manager has explained the difference in fitness is a big thing between the First Division and the Premier League.

"He's had us working really hard since the word go and the fitness and the pace is just a massive difference.

"When Norwich played Southampton in the FA Cup last season in the second half Norwich's players were blowing up a little bit, but Saints had the fitness to keep going and that won them the game and that demonstrates the difference really.

"I've been running round the forests so I've got to know that as well now, but all the players are talking about Scotland and I'm kind of worried! But I know I'll enjoy it.

"It's been two weeks of very hard work so far for me but Scotland sounds even harder!

"I've been told it's running up and down sand dunes and the lads have told me a few other things - apparently if you come last in the running they say you have to run in the sea which is freezing cold - so I'm determined I won't finish last!

"But Craig Bellamy told me that Gordon likes players to work hard and that's what pre-season's all about, so I'm looking forward to it really."

Kenton, who can play right across the defence and midfield, added: "Initially my aim is to get into the team and I'll be working hard pre-season to get a chance and hopefully when it comes I'll be able to take it.

"It's every player's dream to play in the Premiership. I watched Match of the Day from about 12-years-old and from then on your dream is to play in the top league - it's a dream come true to be here at 24."
