A SPECTACULAR catwalk show was one of the highlights of Cricklade College's student art exhibition running this month.

Some 43 outfits were designed and created by art, fashion and textiles students and were displayed during the show to an invited audience of more than 270 guests.

The show was divided into them-es, including Moul-in Rouge, James Bond and Frutti Tutti, featuring a range of outfits from funky club wear to classic haute couture.

Nicola Vant, an A level fashion and textiles student, said: "My collection was inspired by exotic fruit, a visual theme combining the colour and the texture of kiwi fruit and water melon. I think it's turned out really well. I only had 12 weeks to create all three outfits, but my lecturer encouraged me, and once I got into it I was really motivated."

Other designers included Margaret Kerston, now in her fourth year at the college. Margaret modelled her own creation, a spectacular outfit in glittering autumnal hues.

Hand-embroidered leaves cascaded from the delicate layers of skirt and a copper-coloured bodice intricately laced at the back added to the full visual effect.

Alex Barnet, the only male designer, created garments on the theme, 'Cinderella versus Grunge' and joined in the show wearing his own distressed neoprene outfit, while escorting the models showing off his other creations.

The show was part of a wider exhibition of art at Cricklade College, featuring photography, ceramics fine art and textiles.
