SPORTS CENTRE - holders of the Hampshire triples title - stayed on course to retain the trophy with a 19-13 victory over Banister Park in the Central Division finals.

Playing at Atherley the trio of John Keat, Richard Shelley and Martyn Sekjer always had a little in hand against Vic Winterbottom, Mark Hammond and Danny McEwan and now qualify for the Last Eights back at Atherley in the week beginning Monday, July 21.

Through to the county quarter-finals of the fours are Jim Barrett, Bernie Love, Mick Barrett and Roger Cattle who outgunned their fellow Eastleigh Rail rink of Boyce, Farminer, Werrin and Jim Wood 23-5 in the fours.

The other fours match saw Luke Young, Simon Doig, Andy Anderson and Denny Graydon of Fleming Park defeat the Woolston quartet of Hoare, Ricketts, Akhurst and Head 23-10.

Eastleigh Rail also triumphed in the pairs with Ray Long and Stuart Martin beating Ron Garner and Vance Wheeler (Aerostructures) 25-20.

Anderson lines up against Gary Carter (Atherley) in the area singles at Sports Centre on Saturday (10am) while at the same time Doig meets Elliot Comley (Banister Park) in the under-25 singles.

In the Central Division semi-finals of the Hampshire Club Championship Sports Centre crushed Fleming Park 99-48 and Eastleigh Rail sank Romsey 83-69.

English BA president Arthur Hockley from Kent leads a team at Atherley next Thursday afternoon, July 17, against the Hampshire Bowling Clubs' Past Presidents' Association who are celebrating their golden anniversary this year.

President of the HBCPPA this season is Norman Cole of Alexandra and a past president of Havant Indoor BC.
