BISHOP'S Waltham openers Rob Bailey and Mike Barrett set a club record first wicket partnership of 240 against Ramsdell in their County IV fixture.

Having lost the toss and being invited to bat, both Bailey (125) and Barrett (115 no) scored centuries.

Barrett offered three chances to the Ramsdell fielders, none of which were taken, while Bailey was finally bowled by J Kent (2-26) in the 40th over while looking to take the score past the 300 mark.

The previous opening record was the 234 in 37 overs scored by Chawton's Jonathan Arundel (126) and Raj Singh (94) against Crown Taverners.

Chasing 294 for victory, Ramsdell struggled against Paul Woodward (12-3-36-3) and Sean van Duiker (12-3-41-3) and were eventually bowled out for 170.

Leg spinner Ben Simpson, 15, was handed a four-over spell and bagged his first Hampshire League wicket.
