Saints have finally completed the signing of Frenchman Leandre Griffit.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has completed the formalities on a long-running move from Amiens.

The promising youngster was first linked with the club a month ago but now the deal has been completed.

Although a free agent, Saints will have to pay some compensation to the French Second Division side who are entitled to recover some of their training costs.

Griffit is expected to primarily play for Saints' Premiership reserve side, managed by Steve Wigley, next season.

Saints have been linked with a move for West Bromwich Albion striker Jason Roberts.

Roberts, who is also rumoured to be attracting interest from Charlton, scored only three goals in 34 appearances for the relegated Baggies last season.

In fact, the player signed from Bristol Rovers for £2m three years ago failed to score in his last 24 matches of 2002/03.

Speculation that West Brom are resigned to losing Roberts has been heightened by the fact they have made a £1m bid to sign Crewe striker Rob Hulse.

They have also been linked with a £400,000 move for Rotherham's Alan Lee.

Meanwhile, Saints star Wayne Bridge is the latest player linked with a move to Chelsea.

A Daily Mirror report says new Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire, is planning a £7m move for Bridge.

Saints chairman Rupert Lowe has consistently maintained that the club is under no pressure to sell any players this summer.
