CHARMAINE Turner provided the highlight for Team Solent in the UK Women's League Division 2 at Hendon.

Fresh from triple jump silver at the AAA Under-23 Championships in Bedford, the Windsor-based talent produced another excellent leap of 12.18 metres for first place and was third in the long jump with 5.36.

Hard-working Turner put in near identical performances the day before in the Southern Women's League Division 1 at Walton when a double victory measured 12.16 in the triple jump and 5.40 in the long jump.

Ruth Brereton, a 400m hurdles finalist at Bedford, also hit form in the UK League to win in 60.6sec.

Unfortunately for Solent, a major clash of fixtures gave them the headache of two women's leagues running back to back - and three elite performers - Melanie Purkiss, Emma Duck and Jade Lucas-Read - were away on international duty.

With junior strength gradually improving and Vicki Foster and Debbie Callaway taking a near full house of points in the throws, the Southern League squad finished a respectable third. But it was harder going for the national league side, who finished in sixth place, keeping them fifth overall in the table.

Purkiss, Solent's 400m specialist from Otterbourne, was busy at the City of Cork Games where she clocked 23.92 seconds for third in the 200m behind Woodford Green & Essex Ladies' Abi Oyepitan (23.09)
