City of Southampton swimmers are benefiting after the return of their head coach from his training camp with the Great Britain squad in Cyprus.
Alan Ayles was been invited to accompany the British swim squad on their freestyle training camp as an assistant coach. He coached top swimmers such as Rebecca Cooke, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and Graeme Smith, Olympic medallist.
The week-long camp was hectic with 15-hour days, including the coaches having regular meetings to plan and discuss strategies.
Bill Sweetnam, head of British swimming, spent some time at the camp and Ayles was able to meet with him and discuss new ideas.
And now Ayles has introduced these ideas at City of Southampton with the swimmers' training session sets changed and the pace upped.
Based at The Quays, the City of Southampton club is going from strength to strength since Ayles's appointment. Anybody interested in joining or offering sponsorship should contact Alan Ayles (077) 7162 2958.
