Eastleigh swimmers had a number of notable successes at the 2003 Hampshire Development competition.

For three swimmers, the meet represented their first taste of open competition.

In the nine years age group Gerard Sibbald was third in the 200m breaststroke and fifth in the individual medley (1min 39.82sec), which helped him to 11th place overall.

Ten-year-old Sam Martin did not disappoint, and finished in joint fifth place overall. His highlights were third places in both the 100m medley (1:33.55) and the 50m freestyle (37.76).

Michael Sheath gained valuable experience at the same level and established personal best times.

With slightly more experience, Roz Read and Naomi Collicott both ten, were in good form. Roz won the 200m breaststroke (3:44.10) and was third in the 100m individual medley and 200m freestyle (2:55.83), giving her third place overall.

Collicott also competed hard to finished just one place behind in fourth overall, following noteworthy swims in the 50m freestyle, where she was third in 36.61, and the 100m individual medley where she was fourth in 1:33.55.

In the 11 years age group, Harry Fisher finished third overall after five top-three finishes, including first place in the 50m backstroke (41.35) and second spots in 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley (1:29.60).

For the 11-year-old girls, Gemma Barry and Alice Robinson faced tough competition to finish 15th and 25th respectively.

Tom Musker took second place overall in the 12 years age group after performing consistently well over the weekend. There were second places for Musker in the 50m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 100m individual medley (1:22.74) and third places in the 50m and 200m freestyle as well as the 200m butterfly.

Amy Stevenson, 12, proved that breaststroke is her strongest stroke, taking third and fourth places in the 50m and 200m events, results which, coupled with a solid performance in her other key events, were enough to put her in fifth place overall.

In the 13 years age group Marie Bushnell was ninth overall following strong swims in the 50m and 100m backstroke where she gained fifth places. She also produced a strong performance in the 200m freestyle (2:43.92pb).

Kelly Parkhouse, 15, swimming in the 15-18 age group, took gold in the 100m breaststroke (1:30.50) and bronze in both the 50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.
