Ulsterman Adam Lyons made a solid debut for the Swanmore-based Yamaha Dixon Racing team in the sixth round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship in the Isle of Wight.

The 125cc class was fortified by four grand prix riders, including the Dutchman Marc De Reuver who is battling for the title. So Lyons sixth-place, after powering up to third early in the race, was pleasing for the Hampshire team whose star rider, Billy Mackenzie, is out injured.

Second time out, Lyons got tangled up with another rider, found himself down in 30th place and did well to fight his way through to ninth. Jason Dougan from Portsmouth had a good day with eighth and sixth places but Stephen Sword strengthened his grip on the title with a first and a second.

Dixon's other two riders, Jason Higgs and Mark Jones, managed ninth and tenth in the first of the Open races, both dominated by Gordon Crockard. A crash put Higgs, on the four-stroke Yamaha, back to 18th in the second race in which Jones took 11th position.
