YOUNG tennis ace James Chaudry is celebrating after being called up for the Great Britain squad to face Holland next month.

The Mountbatten schoolboy has capped a fantastic winter with news of the call-up and is now preparing for what promises to be a busy month of June.

As well as the inter-national in Solihull, Chaudry, pictured, is due to play in international tournaments in France and Corsica.

The North Baddesley youngster has also been busy training at Bisham Abbey on the LTA's National Futures programme with the other outstanding tennis prospects in the country.

Chaudry has won tournaments in Chiswick, Sutton, Chigwell, Birming-ham and Bristol during the winter and also made it to the semi-finals of the national under-12 championships.

His international call-up is recognition of his status as one of the top three under-12s in the country and he has only recently returned from a trip to Barcelona for clay-court training.

Chaudry is a member of the Abbey tennis club in Romsey and the Winchester tennis club, but also trains regularly at the Indoor Tennis Centre at David Lloyd leisure, Southampton.

He trains most days and, with fitness trainer Mark Abrahamson at East Wellow, has also greatly improved his strength and speed around the court.

The 12-year-old prospect is coached by county tennis development officer Mike Booth.

He said: "James is very quick and he is has a very good match temperament.

"With his attitude, he is tough to beat. He also has very good strokes and fully deserves his place in the Great Britain team."

Mum Rosie added: "He has been doing really well and we are delighted for him.

"His tennis commitments have meant he is having to take some time off school, but we are incredibly grateful to Mountbatten in Romsey, who have been extremely understanding and supportive."
