A POLICE investigation was under way today following the discovery of the body of an elderly woman at a house in Fareham.
The woman's body was found at an address in Lawrence Road around 7am today.
Police said an elderly man had been arrested in connection with the death and was in custody at Fareham police station.
It was understood he is due to be interviewed by police later today.
The property was sealed off this morning while scenes of crime officers carried out forensic tests at the scene.
Police said the death was being investigated by detectives from Hampshire Constabulary's major crime team.
A post-mortem examination on the woman, who has not been named, was due to be carried out by a Home Office pathologist.
