FORGET Glastonbury and Reading - Broadlands is becoming the place to enjoy live al fresco music in the summer.

This August, the venue in Romsey will be hosting two fabulous open-air picnic concerts that are musts for music lovers.

On Saturday, August 16, pop favourites Atomic Kitten will be taking to the stage.

The Liverpudlian trio hit the big time in 2001 with Whole Again having had a few smaller hits, including See Ya, I Want Your Love and Right Now.

Before Whole Again the Kittens had been in danger of being dropped from their record label but these days they are one of Britain's biggest pop bands and are poised to take America by storm.

They will be supported by D-Side, with further special guests to be confirmed. If you prefer your music a little more retro, make a date in your diary for One Big Saturday on Saturday, August 9. The event will be packed with live bands from yesterday, including Hot Chocolate, Showaddywaddy, The Searchers, Beach Boys, Real Thing, Boney M, Heatwave and Rose Royce.

Hot Chocolate were chart regulars during the 70s and 80s, clocking up hits with such disco delights as You Sexy Thing, Brother Louie, It Started With A Kiss and So You Win Again.

Showaddywaddy were already retro when they started out, playing rock 'n' roll revival numbers in the 70s, including Three Steps To Heaven and Under The Moon Of Love.

The Searchers were tipped to be as big as The Beatles and although they never reached quite the same heights of fame, they did pretty well for themselves, clocking up 14 hits in the 60s, including number ones with Sweets For My Sweet, Needles And Pins and Don't throw Your Love Away.

So whether nostalgia or modern pop is your thing, make your way to Broadlands this summer. If you can't make it to Broadlands to see Atomic Kitten, they will also be at Bournemouth International Centre in November.
