Newport IoW finished the Easter holiday empty-handed after a tame 2-0 defeat at Burnham.

Unlike in Saturday's 3-2 home loss against Tonbridge Angels, the Islanders got exactly what they deserved this time - absolutely nothing. Defender Jon Holmes presented Burnham with a free header midway through the first-half and they were punished again after the break for failing to clear a free kick.

"The manner of defeat was very disappointing," said manager Steve Tate. "It was a non-event and we just rolled over and died.

Apart from two or three who were exempt from criticism, the rest were well below par and we didn't muster a shot on target all afternoon.

"I'm annoyed because we just accepted we'd get beaten today. Burnham are a big, awkward side and we'll be coming across a lot more of them next season, so I only hope they learn from this.

"The pitch wasn't the best, but I can't blame that because it was just as bad for Burnham. Our performance was not acceptable."

Fleet Town co-boss Mark Dennis travelled to Dorset hoping to do his old Dell muckers Nick Holmes (Salisbury City) and Barry Blankley (Bashley) a favour by derailing Dorchester Town's promotion train - but it didn't happen.

The north Hampshire club were well beaten 5-1, leaving Mark Morris's merry Mapgies just three points short of a return to top-flight football.

Dorchester went two up inside 20 minutes courtesy of Justin Keeler and Matt Groves, who was making his 200th club appearance.

Midfielder Ed Hare threw Fleet a lifeline by heading home a Steve Black corner, but any hope of a comeback was jolted when ex-Salisbury striker Martin Shepherd struck to make it 3-1 at half-time.

Mark Jermyn and Keeler hit further Dorch goals in the 48th and 57th minutes and, to rub further salt into the Fleet wounds, they had defender Wayne Noad sent off for a second bookable offence.
