Southampton City's juniors produced top-drawer performances in the National Young Athletes' Road Relays at Sutton Coldfield.

The under-13 girls' A team achieved the club's highest placing of seventh - and this after lead-off runner Louise Webb fell at the start but still managed to finish sixth.

Joanna Kelly kept the team in contention in 11th place, handing over to new recruit Rebecca Gough, who ran the club's fastest leg time - and eighth fastest overall - to bring City safely home.

The girls' under-13 B team of Victoria Kelly, Lizzy Hall and Megan Coakley came 45th and were the third Hampshire team home.

Southampton's under-15 girls finished 15th - an excellent place after a long and successful cross-county season in which they were runners-up in the Hampshire League and Championships, winners of the Wessex League and were nominated by the Hampshire County Council as junior team of the year.

Peter Batten was the pick of the under-13 boys' team, who came 56th.
