The Hants Alliance paid their first ever visit to North Hants Golf Club to contest the Alliance Bowl, one of their oldest trophies, dating back to 1937.

As ever the competition was played as a better ball bogey - not the most popular of formats - but played in glorious spring sunshine. The all-South Winchester pairing of professional, Richard Adams, and his amateur partner, Mike Rescorle, won a handsome victory with a score of +7 with both players making equal contributions including two twos from the amateur. In joint second place on +5 were Kevin Saunders (Dibden) & Allan Deuchar (Corhampton) and Chris Hudson (Southwood) & Henry Jones (The Army) while taking fourth place on +4 were the all-Army team of Simon Hodge & Ian Walton. The highlight of the morning round was a hole-in-one recorded by Petersfield professional, Greg Hughes, on the third hole - normally a par five over water but played on this occasion to a temporary green 252 yards from the tee. The all-amateur section saw two teams tie on +2 but the winners on countback were the all-Alresford team of David Harrison & Brian Young with Mick Peace (Basingstoke) & Bob Lucas (Rowlands Castle) taking second place. In the afternoon, an 18-hole foursomes medal was played with pro-am teams taking the first three places, Rob Edwards (Lee-on-the-Solent) & Robin Giddings (Waterlooville) chalked up 37 points to win but only by one point from two of the morning's successful pairs, Saunders
