Preparations are well under way for this year's Andover Festival to be held over the last weekend in June.

The festival will kick off with Walls Carnival Fair at Walworth Sports Ground, from Friday 27 June until Sunday 29 June.

This year has been nominated as European Year of the Disabled and all funds raised during the carnival processions will be donated to individuals in need and local organisations supporting disabled people within the community.

The theme for the carnival procession on 28 June is festivals of the world.

Dave Houghton, chairman of the festival committee said: "This year's theme has been chosen to attract children and families. It is the kids that bring the parents along to the show.

"Any money raised is given back to the people locally who need it."

The committee has said the Andover show on 29 June will be bigger and more entertaining than in recent years with a wide range of trade stands and a large craft tent.

The committee is looking for businesses to enter ten teams with eight to ten members for this year's new attraction it's a knock out.

Mr Houghton said: "We want to create an atmosphere around the town so we are putting different types of bands at different procession points."

The committee has had great support from Test Valley Borough Council which wants to raise the profile of Andover and create a heart for the town. It has donated the Walworth Sports Ground for use over the weekend.

Once again the Lions are offering a free pitch to the first 25 charities wishing to attend the show, raise funds for their own cause and entertain visitors.

There are still a variety of trade pitches and sponsor opportunities available.
