RESIDENTS in Over-ton's Waltham Road say lives will be lost if vital parking improvements are not put in place.

Terry Robinson told parish councillors he has been campaigning for six years for something to be done about dangerous car parking, particularly next to the junction with the main road.

He said: "In the last week of February I nearly had a head-on collision trying to come onto the main road because a car was parked on the corner.

"We've also had a silly piece of paper come through with the names of two councillors on, asking us if we have a problem with parking.

"It really makes me angry. Have we got to lose a life or be seriously injured before something is done?

"Six years ago I was asked by the council to draw a map of where yellow lines should go but I have still heard nothing."

Cllr Brian Langer said a meeting with residents was planned for April after a survey carried out in Battens Avenue showed no unanimity of yellow lines and added parking obstructions near junctions was a police issue.

But Pc Paul Green said: "We will respond to vehicles in dangerous positions, however the police cannot always respond quickly as it depends what else is going on.

"I think yellow lines might be a solution because some people think they can park on the junction and yellow lines spell it out."
