A YEAR six pupil from Farleigh School has been recognised as one of the best mathematicians in the country after winning a bronze award in the Primary Maths Challenge finals.
Oliver Hunt, aged 10, came joint 51st in the challenge and was thrilled with his award from the Mathematical Association.
The first part of the challenge was held in November, with 62,000 pupils taking part in the initial stages.
Oliver did so well in that test that he was one of 1,214 pupils invited to take part in the finals, which were held in February.
Farleigh pupils Matthew Guinness and Edward Orlik also made the finals, although Oliver was one of 111 pupils to win an award.
Maths teacher John Griffiths said: "We had three pupils invited to take part and of those three, Oliver did particularly well. This was the first time the school has won a medal and we're really proud of him."
Oliver said maths was one of his favourite subjects and he hoped to use these skills in the future.
