MORE than 100 resident at Enham Alamein have signed a petition to stop their free transport being taken away. Disabled residents living at Western Court claim the free transport is being removed because of cuts in spending.

Residents are worried they will not be able to get to the shops and work.

A resident who doesn't want to be named said: "At the moment they have four full time drivers and three part time drivers but they will all have left by May.

"Every Saturday there are a group of us who go into town together on the mini-buses."

But Angela Rice director of resources at Enham said: "We do still have the transport but we are now streamlining it to make it more cost effective.

"We would still take people to hospital appointments and to work.

"For years we have had a call out service but quite often the bus would only be taking one or two people places. Enham are arranging particular days the mini buses will visit places each week.

"We are also trying to make the place less institutionalised, giveing residents more independence instead of having them all in a large bus with big logos on the side."
