THE FRONT runner to take over one of Britain's largest trade unions visited Southampton this week.
Tony Woodley, the deputy general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union, visited staff from the city's Ford plant in Swaythling as well as Southampton dock workers.
Mr Woodley is hoping to take over the top job from Bill Morris, who retires in October this year.
During his visit to the city, he also met with staff from the Barcardi Martini factory which recently won union recognition.
He then moved on to a public meeting at Southampton First Bus Social Club.
Mr Woodley, who is launching his election campaign this week, said: "I will be campaigning for a policy of change.
My ambition is to change the T&G with the full support of our members. Our history is as a campaigning and growing union, and I am determined we can restore that dynamism."
