MEMBERS of a Southampton congregation are turning their church into a theatre to raise cash.

Worshippers at St Edmunds Church are performing L Fodor's play The Vigil from tonight until Saturday in the hope of raising up to £1,000 towards restoration.

First performed in 1948, the religious courtroom drama is presented with the audience as the jury and sees Joseph of Arimathea's gardener accused of removing Christ's body from the tomb and burying it in an unmarked grave.

Performances are at 7.30pm, with tickets priced £5 (£4 with concessions) and £2.50 for under-16s. Tickets are available on the door or by calling 023 8033 3589.
