THE Nigel Turner Thomsons Financial Planning-sponsored Sunday Series got off to an amazing start when the 40 anglers took over 1100lb of carp to the scales from Mike Smith's prolific Hordle Lakes complex.

The haul included 21 weights over 20lb in a fabulous start to what is usually a fish-packed series.

Carbotech's Lee Woodhouse only has to be given a sniff off a good peg these days and he is almost unbeatable. He started the series with a bang when taking a massive 100lb 12oz of carp on the waggler and corn over pellets from the Caravan Bank on Bobs to score a runaway victory.

Woodhouse caught well early and late in the match and included fish to 8lb in his haul.

Marshall Rolfe Team Toyota's skipper Gary Naylor finished second with 80lb 15oz of carp to 5lb caught on band, pellet and waggler and he would have finished close to the winner apart from a quiet opening two hours.

Marc Illingworth (Home-stores) finished third overall from Canal Lake with 63lb 1oz of carp to 5lb on corn and pellet and the long pole, with Eastleigh's Bob Drew fourth with 47lb 6oz of carp on the pole and corn, also from the canal. Others: N Tappin (Cormorants) 44lb 14oz, R Haywood (Homestores) 43lb 8oz, D Hambidge (Dynamite Bait) and P Newman (Poingdestres) 42lb 6oz.

Witherington Farm's Open on the inner circuit of Topmoor saw Ringwood's Mickey Haskell take 39lb of carp to 3lb on the pole and corn from peg 6lb to get the better of Simon Cooling who fished the same tactics on peg 62 for second spot with 32lb 9oz. James Knight finished third with 30lb with Gary Etheridge (Withies Select) fourth with 25lb 8oz.

Eastleigh's Club match on Stoneham saw victory go to Paul White who took 27lb 6oz to the scales on waggler and pellet from the Trojans Bank on the Top Lake which included a 17lb 4oz carp.

Maurie Townsend finished second with 18lb 13oz of tench and bream on a mixture of waggler and feeder tactics from the Trojans Bank with Alan Hillman third with 14lb 14oz of mixed fish.

Others: L Glynn 14lb 1oz, P Fellbrich 13lb 12oz, D Rowden 12lb 5oz.

Eastleigh's popular Thursday night opens on the Bottom Lake at Stoneham on April 3 with a 3pm draw, fishing 4pm to dusk with tickets at £15.00. For details phone Dave Self on 023 8042 2627.

Monks Pool carp syndicate on The Isle of Wight has produced another stunning carp with Amigo at an all-time high of 34lb 9oz to Island angler Spencer Wright.

It has been seven years since Wright caught his last 30 from Somerley Lakes at Ringwood and despite taking a whole string of big fish from Monks Pool and other Island waters since, the 30lb barrier has always eluded him.

The fish took a boilie over pellet and was the only fish of the session. It had avoided capture since last October when caught at 33lb 5oz by syndicate boss Tim Oatley.

Amigo now stands third in the rankings on Monks with The Boxer and The Half Linear the biggest two.

Nick Ring caught one of the smallest fish in Monks last week when taking a 24lb 9oz common but wasn't complaining too much as the fish was a personal best.
