BUSINESSES looking to grow, but confronted with a saturated marketplace, are increasingly turning to international trade.

More than £2 billion worth of goods and services were exported from the UK to countries across the world in 2002 and now business Link Wessex is inviting Hampshire businesses to attend a variety of events exploring the opportunities of exportation, during the 2003 International Trade Week taking place this week.

Maggie Wareham, Business Link Wessex international trade team manager said: "As part of the support network the Business Link Wessex team provides for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Hampshire we are working in conjunction with the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and the Southern European Information Centre to provide this dedicated programme.

"The week-long programme of events, many of which are free, is aimed at those starting out in international trade as well as experienced exporters.

"Business people can participate in a variety of sessions including lectures, seminars, short courses and one-to-one consultations, helping them explore the benefits and practicalities of international trade.

"These create the perfect forum for businesses to network while they benefit from the collective expertise of business advisers and expert speakers in the field of international trade."

Highlights of the week include events such as the workshop 'Lift the Barriers to International Trade', which provides an update for new and existing exporters on the International Trade Service; a short 'Beginning in Export Course', designed for those with little or no knowledge of exporting and an 'Export Master Class', specifically aimed at those in the marine industry looking to develop basic knowledge further. Those with an interest in international trade in specific geographical areas are well catered for - there are dedicated seminars on Doing Business in Europe, Mexico and the Middle East. Delegates at the seminar 'Doing Business in the Middle East' have the added incentive of winning 2 economy class tickets by sponsors Emirates Airlines.
