John Robson celebrated his fourth successive win as Totton manager - then paid tribute to predecessor Ian Robinson.

A brilliant Ben Thompson chip and a goal apiece for Scott Bundy and Martin Whiddett helped Totton to a 5-1 success against Bemerton Heath Harlequins at Testwood Park.

But there was some debate at the final whistle as to whether Bemerton defender Dan Newman scored a hat-trick of own goals.

Totton's first goal came courtesy of the first OG of the afternoon.

Patrick James' cross from the right was deflected in, with both Newman and his teammate Keith Richardson involved.

The fourth goal was credited to Whiddett, who headed home after Newman had headed against the underneath of the crossbar.

But according to some, the ball had already gone over the line before Whiddett made sure.

Newman made sure of his place on the score sheet by volleying home a spectacular fifth for Totton.

Bemerton chairman George Parker said: "Some people suggested that Dan had got three own goals but he was glad that Keith Richardson 'claimed' the first and when Martin Whiddett made sure with the second."

Totton boss Robson said: "I haven't made a signing yet but I've got a great set of lads here, Ian deserves a lot of credit for getting this group of players together.

"They were stronger than Bemerton, they out battled them and closed them down at every opportunity. It wasn't a day for passing the ball, we grafted from beginning to end."
