It seems blending is as important throughout the Coach and Horses as it is in the kitchen.
The popular Cadnam pub has managed to keep a tavern-like atmosphere and nucleus of happy regulars while catering for the demands of a booming eating-out industry.
And, while there's plenty of room inside, the owners have created a comfortable outside eating and drinking area to give customers the opportunity to dine al fresco.
A stylish decked area has been built, along with lighting, a water feature and an area for shrubs. But the gadget that seems to be proving popular with holidaymakers and regulars alike is the instant heating that takes the edge off a chilly night.
Our party of three shared a couple of starters - a delicious large plate of nachos and honey sesame chicken strips.
None of us had huge appetites so the half-portions option for many of the meals, with prices to match, was a big plus.
A succulent 10oz sirloin steak was accompanied by french fries, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes.
My partner went for a small portion of beef fillet bourgignon with wild rice and another guest sampled battered chicken strips in a salad bowl. Our bill, which included a good bottle of red wine, soft drinks and ice creams, came to £48.40.
A specials menu offered plenty of alternatives in rabbit stew, shark, thai tuna and much more.
The Coach & Horses' motto is "If we can, we will". They certainly live up to it.
